Up To $40,000 Regional First Time Home Buyer Grants In Alaska

Regional Grants For AK 1st Time Buyers

First time home buyers in Alaska have many options available to them for help in purchasing their first residence. There’s down payment assistance and various other programs provided by the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC), however, the AHFC does not have a first time buyer grant program. The good news is that there are regional agencies in Alaska that do provide first time homebuyer grants. The largest provides up to $40,000.

Each agency has different levels of assistance. For instance, the Alaska Community Development Corporation provides $10,000 in a loan that is forgivable over time to first time home buyers. This is a form of a grant. The details page is here.

The Interior Regional Housing Authority (IRHA) provides a grant of up to 20% of the purchase price of your new home, and the purchase price may not exceed $200,000.00. Twenty percent of $200,000 is $40,000. That’s a very considerable grant. You can find the details and apply here.

The North Pacific Rim Housing Authority (NPRHA) provides a similar program to the one provided by the IRHA above. It is a forgivable loan – in effect a grant – of up to 20% of the purchase price of your new home. You can find the details and application on this page.
