The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation (TSAHC) was created in 1994 as a self-sustaining nonprofit housing organization. TSAHC believes that every Texan deserves the opportunity to live in safe, decent and affordable housing. Their programs target the housing needs of low-income families and other underserved populations in Texas who do not have acceptable housing options through conventional financial channels. All TSAHC programs are offered statewide, with special attention given to rural areas and other select target areas.
There are several programs offered. Their down payment assistance program is actually an outright cash grant that is given when you purchase your home and is applied towards the down payment. They also offer a mortgage tax credit that can be worth up to $2,000 per year. Their 30-year fixed rate mortgage loans can be used in conjunction with their down payment grants. Lastly, they have a Homes for Texas Heroes Program that provides home buyer assistance specifically for teachers, police officers, correctional officers, fire fighters, EMS personnel, and veterans meeting certain income requirements.
