Multiple First Time Buyer Grants Available In Maryland

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (MDHCD) offers down payment assistance to first time home buyers through their MMP Down Payment Assistance Program.

Maryland First Time Home Buyer GrantsBy tapping into the MMP Down Payment Assistance Program, first time buyers can get an additional loan which helps borrowers put together a suitable down payment on their home. This loan, which can be up to $5,000, is a zero percent deferred loan, which means that you only ever have to pay back the original amount (there’s no interest) after you complete all payments on the main MMP mortgage, or if you refinance or sell your home. Thus this Maryland first time home buyer grant program provides what you would have paid in interest as a gift.

Partner Match Programs provide additional down payment and/or closing cost assistance for qualified borrowers utilizing a Maryland Mortgage Program (MMP) loan. Participating partners provide the established amount of assistance to borrowers who meet the criteria established by the partner. MMP matches the funds dollar-for-dollar up to a maximum of $2,500 in the form of a 0% deferred loan which is repayable when the home is sold or transferred, or when the first mortgage is paid off or refinanced.

A list of partners and information about each program, as well as other details can be found on the fact sheet here.
