The Florida Housing Finance Corporation offers a first time home buyer program that is available throughout the state. The FHFC also provides statewide down payment assistance called “Florida Assist,” in which buyers can get up to $7,500 to be used towards their down payment. To find out more about this DPA program, go to Florida Assist down payment program. You will need to enter your county and the number of persons in your household to get specific details. In addition, the good news is that down payment assistance is also provided at the county level.
Pinellas county provides zero interest loans to help with the down payment and closing costs. In unincorporated areas of Pinellas County, the maximum assistance is $10,000. In the city of Largo, the maximum amount of assistance is $25,000, and in the city of Clearwater, the maximum assistance is $14,000.

The Sarasota Down Payment Assistance Program provides up to $30,000 in the form of a Shared Appreciation Mortgage Loan (SAM) to low income homebuyers by paying a portion of their down payment and closing costs associated with the purchase of a home using State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) funds. A maximum of $4,375 can be used for closing costs, and the remainder can be applied towards the down payment. This is a zero-interest loand that will have to be paid back when the home is sold or refinanced.
